Our Sales Associate Erik Bacon | No relation to Kevin.
Erik Bacon –no relation to Kevin. And, yes, he gets it all of the time. But aside from the smoking hot deals he can offer you at The House, the only other bacon reference you might be able to get out of Erik is that his college nickname was No-Fakin’ Bacon. Back then he was a world-class swimmer at the University of Iowa –an Olympic trials finalist, no less. Nowadays, instead of the swimming pool lanes, you can see Erik cruising the fast lanes through the Wisconsin countryside. We sat down with Erik to get to the meat of things with a little Q&A.
What do you ride?
My last bike was a Buell and I’m just buying a newer one, a 2007 XP12 STT Lightning. I like the handling and braking that a sporty bike gives you but with the sound and the feel of a Harley – so Buell is kind of a nice mix for me.
Do you have a favorite place to ride?
I like the freedom of the road in the open country. One of my favorite places to ride is around highway 67 around Kettle Moraine, between Dousman and Eagle. There are winding roads that take you through all of the trees and hills. I guess I just just enjoy being out in nature and the freedom of the road.
What advice would you give to someone buying his or her first bike?
Choosing a bike is a very subjecting thing. You have to sit on a lot of bikes to get the one that feels right. Good advice for a new rider is to be aware of what’s going on around you. Keep your head on a swivel and your eyes all over the place, not just focused on one thing.
When you’re not riding or here at The House, what can we find you doing?
I have two boys that are 6 and 10 who love soccer and baseball. You’ll probably find me hanging out with them. I also race cars—usually in the SCCA Autocross Series usually on the parking lot at Miller Park on Sundays when the Brewers are not in town. I also am an instructor and help out with PDX/driver schools at Road America. Like Ricky Bobby says, “I like to go fast!”
With years of cycle expertise under his belt, Erik is dedicated to helping find the right bike for you. Whether you are buying, browsing, or just want to chew the fat, he’s happy to walk you through our ever-changing inventory anytime. He can be reached at 414-282-2211.
